Shayoni Dutta
Data Scientist
WiDS Delhi @IIT
Shayoni is an extremely talented computational biologist pursuing her dream career as a Data Scientist with the German pharma giant Bayer, in clinical trials, analytics and insights. She has a strong background in biomedical sciences and a PhD. in machine learning from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Recipient of large number of awards like DST-INSPIRE (Given only to 1st rank holder in premier institutes), University gold medal, Sakura fellow, AIST DAILAB gold medal, Bayer computational life science 2016 invitee to mention a few and grants for her research, her forte lies in exploring applications and concepts of mathematics and advanced statistics on large biological datasets with such ease and clarity, be it X-ray/histopathological image analysis/classification or neural network based prediction models of DNA-Protein interaction for gene editing or massive clinical trials datasets or Bayesian models for enrollment forecasting to deep learning for population genetics.
Her 4 year tenure as an adjunct faculty of bioinformatics and statistics at the National Institute of forensic Science and Criminology and a TA at IITD has been the most overwhelming experience, as she was introduced with such finesse concepts of statistics, mathematics and informatics to students of a completely alien background, making the task more daunting and challenging, yet fulfilling. Apart from her academics, she has also been involved in organizing and conducting a host of computational biology workshops and activities during her stay at IIT.
Her constant learning curve and dedication helped her uncover her insights for leveraging computers and statistics to understand the possibilities biology beholds and how life changing it can be... She feels this opportunity as a WiDS Ambassador will empower her to catapult women into leadership positions in Data Sciences.
