Welcome new WiDS 2021 Ambassadors!

11/2/2020

Picture
Ambassador applications for the WiDS 2021 season have opened earlier this month, and we are pleased to begin onboarding nearly 200 ambassadors and co-ambassadors from 40+ countries, including Romania, Thailand, and Nepal! Meet the new WiDS ambassadors.
We are humbled by the number of applications we have received so far, and expect many more to come in over the next couple months. With more than half of the ambassadors being new this year, there will be many opportunities for ambassadors to learn from, collaborate, and connect with one another as they begin to plan their regional events in conjunction with the virtual WiDS Worldwide conference taking place on March 8th, 2021.

Virtual Ambassador Meet-and-Greet
To kick off the season, many ambassadors joined us for a virtual ambassador meetup, where we shared plans for WiDS 2021, and ways that ambassadors can participate in the WiDS Worldwide conference, WiDS Datathon, and WiDS Education Outreach program. It was a privilege to connect with and see the excitement shared by over 200 ambassadors from around the world; something that would not have been possible otherwise! If you missed the meetup, you can watch the recording.

 Hear from some WiDS Ambassadors
As the WiDS 2020 season winded down with over 150+ regional events, we asked ambassadors, “What did you enjoy most about being a WiDS Ambassador?” Here is what some of them said:
Being a WiDS ambassador is a very good opportunity to connect with inspiring women having the same interests, I have learned from all of them. It's crazy how we express the same interest in 'Data Science' in billions of ways. Being an ambassador is also a very good opportunity to keep updated about recent research. I also learned a new skill: event management thanks to the global team :) -- WiDS Paris
Helping women, seeing women build their confidence, visibility, self esteem and self worth. -- WiDS Pune
Being part of an international network of women who share the same purpose, since that amplifies our impact. Having the opportunity to highlight many women data scientists from our community, who do not have, in general, other chances to give conferences and become referents. Also, being able to inspire many women, students or professionals of other fields,  who feel especially invited to be part of the field and eager to learn. -- WiDS Córdoba
Being part of a large movement and community -- WiDS @ Urbana Champaign
I love showcasing talented women in tech. -- WiDS Raleigh
Interested in becoming a WiDS 2021 ambassador?
If you would like to host a WiDS event in your city, and share a passion for data science, learn more about becoming a WiDS ambassador, and apply today! Applications close January 8, 2021.
