The 7th Annual Women in Data Science (WiDS) Worldwide conference will be a hybrid conference, held in-person at Stanford University and online on March 7, 2022. WiDS Worldwide is a technical conference featuring outstanding women doing outstanding work in data science and related fields. This year’s conference will feature keynote addresses, several technical talks, panel discussions, and time for networking. The simultaneous online conference will include a broadcast of the conference at Stanford, in addition to workshops, speaker interviews, a career expo, and networking.
The WiDS Worldwide team is delighted to announce additional distinguished speakers addressing topics such as the intersection of data visualization and NLP, equity and data in energy and transportation and healthcare, robustness and interpretability, and more. They include:

Vidya Setlur: Director of Tableau Research
Vidya’s interests lie at the intersection of data visualization and natural language processing (NLP). At Tableau Research, Vidya has worked on multiple projects and prototypes involving semantic and visual representation. When Tableau was productizing Ask Data, their natural language interaction feature, Vidya moved to engineering to manage a natural language engineering team.

Tierra Bills: Assistant Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Public Policy, UCLA
Tierra recently joined UCLA after more than two years as an Assistant Professor at Wayne State University, three years as a Michigan Society Fellow and Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, and three years as a Research Scientist at IBM Research Africa in Nairobi, Kenya. Tierra’s research focuses on investigating the social impacts of transportation investments. She was a panelist on the recent C3E discussion titled, “Can data driven solutions give us more equitable energy solutions?”, moderated by Professor Margot Gerritsen. During the WiDS Worldwide conference, Tierra will deliver a technical vision talk titled, “Confronting Discriminiation Effects in Travel Demand Models”, and will participate as a panelist on the, “Algorithmic Approaches to Equitable Solutions” panel.

Nadia Fawaz: Senior Staff Applied Research Scientist, Tech Lead for Inclusive AI, Pinterest
Nadia’s research and interests include machine learning for personalization, AI fairness, and data privacy, and her work aims at bridging theory and practice. Her work on inclusive AI has been featured in many news outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, and CBS. During the WiDS Worldwide conference, Nadia will deliver a technical vision talk, “Inclusive Search and Recommendations”, where she will describe her work in developing inclusive AI in production.

Chiara Sabatti: Professor of Biomedical Data Science and Statistics, Stanford University
Chiara’s research is centered on the development of statistical methods that enable the exploration of high dimensional data. Her work entails both reducing computational barriers and ensuring that the results are reliable, reproducible, and robust. At the WiDS Worldwide conference, Chiara will deliver a technical vision talk titled, “Replication, Robustness and Interpretability: Improving How We Communicate Scientific Findings”. Chiara was also featured in an episode of the WiDS podcast: Algorithms and the Human Genome.

Keep checking back, as we will be announcing more speakers in the coming weeks.
