Associate Professor, University of Hartford
Picture
Dr. Aslihan Demirkaya is a Research Scientist at Vianai and an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the University of Hartford. At Vianai, she draws from her extensive mathematics and statistics background to provide data science expertise for the company’s AI platform.
Dr. Demirkaya has co-authored more than 15 publications in top peer-reviewed journals, and co-wrote the book “A Dynamical Perspective on the φ4 Model: Past, Present and Future” published by Springer-Verlag. She helped create University of Hartford’s data science program and has sought to demonstrate how data science can be accessible to anyone with a computer science or mathematics background.
Dr. Demirkaya’s love of mathematics began in her native Turkey when a teacher encouraged her to try out for the National Math Olympiad. Dr. Demirkaya didn’t think she’d do especially well, but then went
on to take the silver medal. Within two years, she was ranked first overall in the region. Her success led to a B.S. in Math and Industrial Engineering from METU, Turkey, followed by a Ph.D. in Mathematics
from the University of Kansas.
